A year ago today, Paul and I woke up at 4am after only three-ish hours of sleep. We took the train to the airport, and got checked in.
We boarded a plane for the four hour flight to Santo Domingo!! Savannah cried the whole flight due to her cold making her ears especially sensitive. We arrived and got through customs pretty fast – and Savannah got her first passport stamp!! My first impression of the Dominican Republic was that it was HOT. We took a taxi to the bus station. We drove through Santo Domingo which I enjoyed because it reminded me a lot of Lima.
We then bought bus tickets to Jaracaboa, and left shortly thereafter.
It was getting dark when we arrived, walking to the prearranged meeting spot at a nearby bakery. There, we finally hooked up with these people:
It was a loooong day! (About 14ish hours from the time we left our house.) But so worth it! We had an amazing trip and we are so glad we had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Dominican Republic. It’s hard to believe that the Petersons are no longer living there, as of last week. :-( I do look forward to seeing them again this summer at the Gerig reunion!!
P.S. Happy birthday to Beth today!
Some exciting news today!
We were at a prayer meeting tonight at a neighbor’s house, and Savannah was playing in the middle of the floor with all of us sitting around her. She got up, and walked several steps, all by herself! She did it several times!! :-)
She was having the time of her life, playing with her toys and walking around the circle. She was really steady as she was walking!
Hopefully this is the beginning of chasing around a little toddler. :-)
If you’re anything like me, you got your first pocket diaper in the mail and the first thing you noticed was 500 snaps along the front. And maybe it was because I was pregnant, but that alone overwhelmed me and made me want to give up right there!
But really, one-size diapers aren’t complicated once you understand how the snaps work. And I love being able to use the same diapers, and not having to buy more as she grew. She has been wearing the same diapers from the time I started cloth (8 weeks old) to now – at 19 months old. I’m hoping the pictures below will help you understand how one-size diapers work a bit better.
I had a really rough day yesterday, despite the fact that it was Paul’s birthday. It was also cloudy and dreary, and felt cooler than it’s been, which didn’t help at all. Tears threatened all day as I tried to focus on my tasks at hand, and when I was all alone I let them flow which was somewhat freeing.
I feel like I’ve been posting a lot of negative things recently, and I apologize! But I don’t want anyone to think that I have it all together, or that my life is rosy and full of rainbows and kittens. (Sadly, my life has NO kittens right now, something which contributes to my mood greatly.)
But yeah, this is the real me. My sad days seem to be outnumbering my happy days right now… And sometimes I wonder if it’s all worth it? But I’m hoping the coming of spring and the warmer, sunshiney days will lift my mood. I need it.
Not looking for advice, just letting you know what’s on my mind.
Happy birthday to my dear Paul!! I don’t have much time to write, but I did want to pop in and wish him a happy birthday. We have a fun day planned of Mexican food, pizza, and a game night with friends from church. :-)
