the BIG DAY

Today is MOVING DAY!! :-D Hooray! I signed my lease yesterday, and received two new, shiny, gold keys which are for my apartment! During my lunch break today, I moved all my stuff that’s in Atlanta right now into my apartment. I was completely exhausted after doing that. Fortunately, someone will be helping me with the rest of my stuff when my family comes tonight.

As we speak, my mom, sister, brother, and cats are headed north with most of my things from Orlando. They should arrive around 9:00 tonight. My cousin and uncle are bringing my couch this evening, so we’ll have somewhere to sit. :-) As soon as I get out of work I will be heading to WalMart to buy some basic essentials and food for all the people who are coming over this weekend.

As soon as I get internet hooked up, I’ll be sending a mass email with my new address and phone numbers. So if you don’t get it, let me know!

Today I was reprimanded for taking my shoes off and walking around the office. :-( *sigh* Stupid shoes… dress shoes at that! Uncomfortable. Feet shouldn’t be confined like that. Oh well. The things I do to get a paycheck. ;-)

By the way, thanks to everyone for your helpful comments about cars! My uncle has the Consumer Reports car magazine, and my mom has a subscription to it online that I can use. I think my best bet is paying cash now and then in a few years when I know I can afford it, investing in something better. I don’t need to get myself more in debt right now.

I miss my family! But I get to see (most of) them tonight!!! Only 4 (or more) hours!

Okay, I need people’s opinions. I’m not sure what to do. So let me know which is better:

1) Buy a used car with cash, and have the whole car paid off at once but also have to deal with maintenance costs, as well as things like high miles, an old car (8+ years), little things being wrong (ex, the cigarette lighter not working, or something else little like that).

-OR-

2) Buy a newer, nicer car, getting a car payment, and spending 3-5 years paying it off but being able to get a car that’s more reliable and going to last me longer.

Things to take into account: I am going to have to borrow money from my grandparents even if I pay cash, but that loan will be interest-free and no min. monthly payment, vs. a car payment that would have interest and a min. monthly payment. I can’t afford more than $150/month in car payments right now. If I didn’t have a payment, then I would use that money on maintenance costs – so if I DID have a payment, I wouldn’t have much left in my budget to use for car emergencies.

Is car insurance cheaper if the car is newer/less miles?

one year anniversary

April must be the month for blogging. Both Matt and Steve started blogging in April, as well as Beth, Joanna, and Nichole. One year ago today I wrote my first post. I was debating whether to go with blogger or xanga, and obviously picked blogger (although my xanga blog is still active). Not too long after I started blogging, I got Zeke. A lot has happened since then… I cried a lot at the end of last year when all my friends were graduating, I got engaged, I did my internship, I planned a wedding, my fiance broke up with me, I went back to Taylor for my senior year, I moved to Fairlane, I had my senior show, I hit rock bottom as far as being depressed, I graduated, I moved back to Orlando, was given two cats, I got a temp job, I got a real job, and then I moved to Atlanta. Now I am about to move into my own apartment, buy my first car, and start out for the first time in a city completely on my own.

I am glad I kept up with the blogging. It’s turned into a good outlet for me, and a way to keep in touch with others. It’s also a good way to record what’s going on in my life.

And just for the record: I HATE CAR SHOPPING. Yes. I am the girl that car dealers love because I will pay more just to not have the headache of having to find a good car for not much money. If only my paycheck agreed with this logic. If it did, I would go buy a new Honda Civic and keep it for 15 years. Then hopefully I will be married and I’ll let my husband deal with it. I will do that as soon as I can afford it and I need a new car.

my newest cousins!

I forgot to make a mention of this earlier, but my cousin Jenny gave birth to twin girls on April 13th. :-) Their names are Kate and Emma. I’m so happy for her and her husband James. :-) I can’t wait to see the two little ones!

6 days until i get to see my family, my cats, move into my new apartment, get my computer back, stop living out of a suitcase, etc.
April 29th will be a very good day :-)

Tonight was the first night in a long time that I have had the time and opportunity to sit at the computer and think about blogs! I enjoyed reading them and catching up with people. I feel that I have been disconnected from people recently, with the exception of Atlanta people. After calling my mom and Paul daily, I am too worn out to call anyone else! And my uncle is busy with tax returns on the computer (people who filed for extensions and other things) so I don’t have much access to that. I’ve also been extremely tired lately, as the whole getting-up-early thing is hitting me. I have found it harder and harder to get up in the mornings, even though I am pretty consistently going to bed at a reasonable hour. I don’t think I will ever reach a point where I will be able to hop out of bed in the mornings. *sigh*

My application was accepted, so I will be signing my lease next week and moving in next Friday. I am really excited, especially now as the traffic has seemed to have taken a sudden turn for the worse and it’s been taking me 40-50 minutes to get to and from work. The thought of a 10 minute drive after I move sounds so nice!

Today I realized that I desperately need some new clothes. Especially since I only brough 9 days of outfits because I thought I was going to be in an apartment before now. In some ways, I’m glad I don’t have a lot of clothes with me, because that would just make me trying to find the right outfits in my suitcase a nightmare. I am so looking forward to having a real dresser!! But about the clothes… All of my nice clothes are like 4 years old, because I am not really a clothes buyer, and I’ve worn them a lot. They are looking more faded and I’m having problems with them being stinky even after I wash them. I got a new skirt and shirt today, which I like but I’m wearing the skirt right now trying to decide if I need to go back and get a bigger size. I need to lose weight, that’s what I need.

I am almost done with the book “Hughes” which I have been reading forever (it’s a big book!). My thoughts about the movie “Aviator” and the true story of Howard Hughes are that the movie was pretty close, although it left out a lot of details (obviously). The movie also mixed up the chronological order of some things – like Howard Hughes went crazy at the end of his life (sitting naked, letting his hair and fingernails grow out, watching movies constantly, peeing in mason jars and keeping them in his room). In the movie, it has him coming back out of that, but in reality he never did (the “coming back out” was at a different point in his life before he did all those things). However, his eccentricities in the movie were consistent with the documentary I’ve been reading, although the movie left out how much of a playboy he was – having slept with most of the big Hollywood stars of his time period. He did live with Katharine Hepburn for 3 years, but she wasn’t the main girl of his life. I find the story very interesting, and now I want to watch the movie again.

I really like history. I think I would like to continue to research different historical events/people for no reason other than to better my own knowledge. One week until I can get a library card!

Oh and today is my parents’ 26th anniversary. Too bad my dad is out of town. :-( But I’m glad that they are still together after 26 years, and that they are still very much in love – and not afraid to show that to their children. I hope someday I will be celebrating my 26th wedding anniversary with a man I am still completely in love with. 26 is a very good number, by the way. It’s the number of cats I have. Or so my blog address and email address reflect.
