Christmas Eve

Tomorrow is Christmas.

I just wrote a whole long post complaining, but then I realized I’m just tired and cranky right now. I think I vented what I needed to vent, but it’s probably not a good idea to post it on my blog for the world to read. I have no idea who reads my blog, so I better be nice to everyone. :-)

I miss Paul. A lot. I am getting really tired of this distance. I suppose people who’ve never been apart from their loved one will leave comments saying I’m being a baby, but I know that people like Sopeak and Zay and Tree and Daniel can relate and will probably offer hugs. :-)

I hope next Christmas I can be with Paul.

I should go do something to get into a better mood. Maybe I will take a long shower and then spend hours making myself beautiful for church tonight. I like pampering myself sometimes.

Christmas Adam

It’s the day before Christmas Eve; therefore, it’s Christmas Adam. Okay, it’s an old joke, but I still am amused by it. :-) I can’t believe it’s Christmas Eve already. You know, I’ve always had warm Christmases (in Peru, Christmas was the start of summer and we went to the beach to celebrate), but for some reason I feel that without the traditional white stuff on the ground, it isn’t really Christmas. I’d like to see more of the Christmas spirit focused around warm climates. You know, some songs and movies about going to the beach or enjoying the lights on the palm trees, stuff like that.

Needless to say, it was really warm today. I think it got to about 75. It was humid and muggy… Ah, the south. :-p My hair was really frizzy and I wore a cute little sleeveless sundress. I sat at my computer and read reports about how it snowed 20 inches in Indiana. Sheesh. I’m glad it hit after I left and not while I was traveling, but it would have been awesome to see 20 inches of snow. Perhaps classes would have been cancelled. That would have been fun. :-)

I helped my mom wrap presents today. I like wrapping presents. It’s fun, and I love trying to make it look nice. I’d like to work at one of those places in the mall that do giftwrapping for you. I think it’s an awesome fundraising idea. Speaking of awesome Christmas ideas, here are some that my computer friends will enjoy.

Today is Zay’s birthday. I love you, Zay!!!

my nightly post

Nothing excited happened today. I finished the christmas cards and finally got them mailed out. All total, I sent about 92 cards. Whew! My hand hurts. But I’m very satisfied with a job completed, even though the ones I mailed today will most likely arrive after Christmas.

I took the kitties to the vet. Lewis has a cold and it sounds awful. They gave me pills for him. I don’t like the idea of forcing pills down a cat’s throat twice a day. I don’t want them to hate me from the start. :-( This is what parents must feel when they take their kids in for a shot.

My family and I played Rummikub tonight. We used to always play that when I was growing up. We haven’t played it in a long time. Why not? I should be better about initiating game nights. You only get one family; it’s nice when you actually do stuff instead of hiding behind a computer or a TV all the time.

BTW, today is Matt‘s birthday.

luna moth

My sister got a moth for Christmas.

I’m not kidding!

Who can say they’ve gotten a moth as a present? Well my sister can. And it fits her. She likes animals – we all do, but my sister likes them the most I think. And a moth fits her quirky and desire-to-be-different personality.

So when my grandmother saw them at the (plant) nursery for sale, she immediately thought of my sister.

Now before you think this is some old brown moth that eats clothes, let me correct you. Apparently this is a Luna Moth and it’s actually pretty, according to the pictures I found online:

My sister has in her room right now a cocoon, and the moth will come out of it. Then it will live for 7-10 days during which it will try to find a mate. After it lays its eggs, it will die. These moths are only active at night (hence the name) and adult moths don’t eat anything – they don’t even have mouths!

I didn’t know moths could be interesting, but I think this is. Paul, how many animals did you say we could have? O:-)

Lewis and Ebony

I have decided on names. The proposed name of Seymour struck on something I wanted: a name that wasn’t just a cat name (like “Oreo”), but something more sophisticated. Seymour sounds like a British author, and I thought to myself, what author do I love? Immediately coming to mind was the beloved C.S. Lewis. I looked at the black and white cat, and decided that “Lewis” seemed to fit him. Therefore, I present to you, Lewis:

For his sister, I stuck with the name of Ebony. I don’t like how it looks written, but I love how it rolls off the tongue.

They were cracking me up today, playing with a wiffle ball on a string. They are very active (being kittens) and I love to watch them play. They’re so much fun. :-)

In other news, I’m having problems with my AIM. Ever since I got back to Florida, it keeps disconnecting. It could be a problem with the network, but my brother says no. However, he doesn’t use AIM. I decided to try GAIM and see if that worked better, but I got annoyed with GAIM because it’s really hard to make it use cool colors and have the font I want. I think it works for practical people but I like things to look cool too much. :-) So I don’t know what to do.

It got cold here today, like it did for the rest of the eastern United States. It got down to a real feel of 32 today, which doesn’t sound very cold, but it is pretty cold for Florida. The houses here aren’t insulated very well, so we don’t have nice heaters to keep us toasty warm. I was talking to a high school friend who lives in Ottawa, Canada, and she was telling me it was -42 degrees there. Brr!!! Melissa, you should move to Canada. ;-)
