rude email of the day

You really deal with all kinds when you’re doing customer service. I sent a proof of an ad to a dealer for him to look over, and this is the response he emailed me today:

“That is much better! The phone number is still too large. Perhaps there is something that you don’t understand. We lose money on every one of the items in the circular. They are designed to ‘Get the Customer into the Store!’ In hope that we can sell them a large item. We do not want them calling us and tying us up on the telephone. OK? That was your marketing lesson for the day.”

It really makes me laugh. What should I respond to him? “This is your customer service lesson of the day: if you’re nice to them, they will be more willing to work with you.”

father's birthday

Today (what is left of it) is my father’s birthday. Happy birthday, Dad. :-)

I don’t have much to say. Please pray for my best friend, Beth, who lives in Houston. She called me tonight to say that they were on their way to Dallas (where her husband’s family lives) to escape the possible/probable destruction of Hurricane Rita. My heart goes out to all the people who are in the path of this storm.

If you had to evacuate quickly, what would you take with you? I look around my apartment and think of all the things I wouldn’t want to lose – memorabilia, photos, etc. Not to stress the importance of material things… but it would be so hard to lose that which can’t be replaced. Of course, getting my cats out safe and sound would be my number one priority. I don’t think I could go without them.

I’ve been putting in a lot of hours at work. Fall is our busiest season, with furniture sales high because of people redecorating for the holidays. After next week it should be so much better.

Days till I see Paul: 16
Days till I see Nichole: 16-18… when are you free that weekend?

new table

I don’t want to overshadow my rafting pictures that I just posted, but I thought I’d put a picture here of my new table that I got at Ikea today. (That really is a cool store!)

Gregg helped me pick up and assemble my new table and two chairs. It’s 36 inches squared and has two leaves that make the table almost 60 inches when extended.

I only extended one leaf for that picture because I was too lazy to pull it away from the wall. Anyways, I’m excited to finally have a table, and I’m hoping to have people over more often for dinner (no more excuses!).

Okay, enough of that. Please be sure to catch the rafting pictures below!

rafting pictures

Finally got the rafting pictures!

I’m the second to the right, looking very intent.

Having a good time (I’m in the middle on the right)

Whoosh!

Hehe… my favorite part was getting wet! :-)

Le Fantôme de l'Opéra

I am a thoroughly exhausted but happy girl today… Last night was much fun. :-) The only downside was that they were late picking me up, so the Phantom had already started when we got there, for which I was very sad. I also felt bad for the people who had to move so we could get to our seats. Other than that, it was a delightful evening.

I must admit, the movie did somewhat spoil the spectularness of the play for me… I still enjoyed it, but in some ways I wish I’d never seen the movie. However, I still managed to get lost in the play… Trying not to sing along with every song, frightened anytime the Phantom made one of his appearances. The last time I saw Phantom, I didn’t know the storyline at all, and so was somewhat confused. Now, four years later, I am very familiar with both the music and the story, and so understanding what was going on made it that much more delightful.

After it was over, we stopped on the steps to take some pictures.

The wind caught the skirt on my dress just right. My fairy dress, as I call it. :-)

Cida and I

Afterwards we went to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and got a nightcap. I told them to order for me, and I got an almond creamy drink (can’t remember the name). I didn’t like it much… I don’t think I’m a big fan of creamy drinks. I like the clear ones better.

Vincent and Cida

All in all, a good evening. I slept very heavily last night and woke up stiff… Guess I was pretty tired. :-) Now I have to figure out what I need to do today… Totally overlooked Saturday in my excitement for Friday! :-)
