food drive – update

Remember when I mentioned the food drive our church was doing for Thanksgiving?

I had a lot of fun buying food for that, and I turned it in. I meant to take a picture of what I ended up doing, but I forgot. We had another food drive last Sunday, and I’m running a bit late but I was able to get all the food today while I was at Aldi. I thought I’d share with what I ended up doing. This is basically the same as I got for Thanksgiving except for the desserts; for Thanksgiving I got pumpkin pie instead.

I got fixings for green bean casserole: canned green beans, french fried onions, and cream of mushroom soup.
Stuffing mix, a jar of gravy, a box of mashed potatoes, and a can of cream style corn.
All-purpose baking mix for rolls or crust or whatever else it can be used for.
Can of whole berry cranberry sauce and a can of sweet potatoes.
For dessert: cherry pie filling, sugar cookie mix with a can of frosting and and some fun holiday sprinkles.
And as a final touch, some packets of hot chocolate mix. I think Christmas isn’t complete without hot chocolate!
Not pictured: a gift card to a local grocery store for perishables.

Last year, Aldi’s had these awesome holiday cookie mix packages that came with a little cookie cutter. I was hoping to get one this year, but they didn’t have any. I could have made my own by picking up a cookie cutter from Walmart or somewhere like that, but I think I’ve run out of time. Other than that, I think I did pretty good. Shopping for all this was making me hungry! We’re cooking our own Christmas meal this year (my first time!) so I was already starting to get ideas. :-)

I hope this food blesses a family this Christmas! I was thinking as I was packaging everything up that I can’t imagine being in a position where I couldn’t even afford food. It made me stop and pray for whoever receives these items. I hope that they are able to have a wonderful Christmas, despite everything.
