homeschooling and socialization

homeschooling and socialization

I thought this blog post was really interesting, about a study done on kids who were homeschooled and kids who were in traditional schooling all their lives. It was taken from psychology professor Richard G. Medlin’s article, “Home Schooling and the Question of Socialization,” Peabody Journal of Education, Vol. 75 (2000): 107-23. (Hat tip: A Dusty Frame)

For the record, I don’t believe that homeschooling is the only educational option for parents and kids. However, I am excited to homeschool my own kids if I can because I think I’d really enjoy it. :-) (And I do think that I can provide a really good foundational education for them.) Perhaps in the older grades I’ll enroll them in a good school in our area, or whatever is the best situation for them. But for now, I’m really excited about the prospect of getting to homeschool (especially after visiting this store). I was homeschooled myself for K4, K5, 2nd and 8th grades.

Oh, and later on today, I plan on writing an update. :-) My sister left yesterday, and her visit is why I’ve been rather absent from this blog!
