on camping

I’m pretty addicted to the internet. That’s one thing I like about camping – forced unplugging. I think it’s good for all of us to get away from technology (or, most of it anyways) for a little bit. Some people have the self control to do it while staying at home, but I need to completely remove myself from the temptation.

I read this in an REI newsletter today:

“Most of us live tethered to modern conveniences that make life pleasant. When camping, certainly do all you can to ensure your comfort, but also realize that for a few nights you have the opportunity to experience the world around you from a new, outdoor perspective. Keep your focus on what’s new, not on the momentary departures from your plugged-in life.”

I thought that was pretty good advice! You can read all their camping tips for urbanites and first time campers here.

  1. That is pretty good.
I think most of us get wrapped up in our day to day lives, totally surrounded by technology, that we are missing the big picture.
Getting away from it all for a weekend of camping is just what the doctor ordered for me. I feel so relaxed and come back a new person.
I believe everyone should have the chance to experience a few nights of camping and getting closer to nature.
