almost one week
Well tomorrow is Friday, and it’s the last day of my first week of work. It’s been an exciting week… I moved to Atlanta, looked for apartments, started a new job, and have had to do all sorts of things like think about things I would need for an apartment and signing insurance papers, etc.
As I’ve mentioned, I’m working for a company that does mostly advertising for the furniture industry. I was really scared at first, since I’m just out of college and definitely not “experienced” in graphic design. But they’ve been great – they are easing me in, starting me on some simple projects that aren’t due until May. They don’t seem surprised at all about where I am as far as experience, so I’m glad I’m not letting them down. Right now I’m doing some customizations on ads for stores selling Ashley furniture (yes I know, it’s confusing! I hear my name everywhere!). I know I’m going to be getting into more complicated customizations maybe next week, and eventually designing my own things too.
So far, I really like it. The people are nice and easy to talk to. They are all friendly and don’t spend their time bashing their coworkers like some other places I’ve worked. They are extremely helpful and willing to show me the right way to do things. The office is cheery and like I mentioned before, I have my own little office (instead of cubicles). Right now it seems really bare… I want to put up posters (I think that would help) but I don’t know of what yet. I was thinking of doing black and white photography, maybe animals… The problem is I don’t want to have to buy a lot. My mom suggested that I hang my senior show, but I’m not sure about that.
Oh and something funny happened today. I left all my hosiery in Orlando accidentally, so I had to buy some so I could wear my skirts to work. Yesterday I went to Target and bought some, and this morning as I put them on I realized I accidentally got the wrong size. Not only did I get the wrong size but I got the “4X” which is the largest size that they come in! So I went around all day today with baggy hose that kept bunching up around my ankles. If I didn’t have many pairs at my parent’s house, I would buy some more, but it’s not worth it. I just keep having to laugh.
Note to self: Do taxes.
