A few days ago I was called by a company that (among other things) finds jobs for freelance graphic designers. I was a little hesitant at first – most of the time when you are called by a company, it seems that it’s a commissioned sales job or something (like selling knives). But this was a legit thing, and this morning I went in for a placement test. First she looked at my portfolio and we talked for a little bit (so like an interview, but more laid back and casual), and then I took the test. Basically, they gave me text and some specs and I have to design a newsletter. I was given an hour. I had trouble with some things, and when the hour was up I had gotten about halfway or a little more through. They said that it was obvious I had the skills, I just needed to work faster. So they lent me a tutorial and told me to come back on Thursday to retake the test. I’m sure I will do fine – it took me a little bit to get back in the groove of using this program. I’m excited! So this will give me some freelance work, extra income, until I can find something permanent. It will also be good on my résumé (more experience) and help me build my portfolio. They told me that sometimes the companies that hire these temp graphic designers will take that person on full time. Overall, I think it’s a great opportunity and I’m excited. :-)

Tomorrow, I have an interview at another place. That seems like a great opportunity, too; hopefully I do well. :-)

I was feeling in a good mood today so I did something I’ve never done before: bought shoes for some reason other than practicality. I saw these shoes the other day while trying to find something decent for my interview. I couldn’t resist; today I went back and bought them (they were on sale – 50% off!). I am really excited; hopefully I will find enough outfits to wear them with since they are “dusty pink” and I only have one pink shirt. Do I look good in pink? I was noticing the other day while trying to find a shirt to wear for my interview that pink is really coming back. Or is it just Florida? Well, whatever it is… It’s definitely the predominant color right now.

Okay back to preparing for my interview tomorrow. If you think of it, pray for me at 10:30 am! :-)
