these days

It’s hard to get to a computer for an uninterrupted amount of time. I’m sure everyone understands. :-) I have been watching a lot of Hulu because Savannah seems to dislike it when it’s quiet, and it’s easy just to turn on a TV show. I like watching TV while I’m nursing since it’s hands-free, and the show distracts me from the pain/discomfort. Recently I’ve been into Mary Tyler Moore, and I have watched the Office wedding episode at least 3 times and I might watch it again!

I took Savannah to the doctor last week because her eye was red and draining. The doc said that she scratched her eye, and that she had a clogged tear duct that was causing it to drain. It cleared up only a day or two later. I felt a little silly taking her to the doc for something so trivial as a scratch… but I am glad she’s okay! I also found out she weighs 9lbs and 9.5oz – so over 2 1/2 lbs bigger than when she was born! I’ve definitely noticed her growing. She is already just about out of her newborn outfits; I’ve been having to pack them away. I was a little sad to pack one outfit away – she only wore it twice and it was SO cute. Then when I was at TJ Maxx the other day, I saw the exact same outfit and I was SOOO tempted to get it in a bigger size. But I didn’t. :-)

Speaking of outfits, I have been on a quest to find a nice dress for her to wear to Isaac and Katie’s wedding! It’s been quite a challenge. I wanted something pretty, long-sleeved, and in 0-3 month size. Apparently that last stipulation was the challenge – I found a lot of newborn, and a lot of 3-6 month, but nothing in between. I finally found what I was looking for at Walmart of all places (which is ironic, because their infant clothing section was really small!) and I was excited. She’s gonna be the prettiest girl there – other than Katie of course!

When I took Savannah to the doctor, I asked her about her red eyelids. The doctor said that they are birthmarks, called “Angel kisses” and they’ll eventually go away. I like the name angel kisses. :-)

Only 2 or 3 more days until I go to Indiana! I still don’t know if I will have a traveling partner or not. I am excited about the trip, but VERY very bummed that Paul isn’t going to be able to come up until Friday night. I like having him around!

Well the baby’s hungry… time to watch another video on Hulu. :-)

humpty dumpty

My sister came down to visit us for her fall break this weekend. It was so wonderful to have her here! I really enjoyed it. She helped me put the finishing touches on the kitchen. So I guess I can take a picture of it now. :-) She also helped with various other projects around the house. Unpacking is VERY slow going, but we’ll get there. Paul’s parents are coming the first weekend of November so we have motivation to get a bit more settled. (Actually, it’s more motivation to get the guest room set up! We bought a mattress today for the guest bed. Soon it will start looking like a room and less like a junk room! :-) I hope!)

One of the things Amy and I did was head up to Discover Mills, a semi-outlet mall outside of Atlanta. We really enjoyed it! I wasn’t sure if Amy would like a shopping trip, but we made a stop at the Eddie Bauer store and she was happy.

It’s gotten a bit colder here – can’t pull of shorts and sleeveless shirts anymore. However, I’m still not into my pre-pregnancy pants. And, since I was mostly pregnant in the summer, I only ever bought one pair of maternity pants. Not only did I only have one pair of pants, I also get spit up or pooped on most every day, and while at home it doesn’t matter, I know that for my 5 day trip to Indiana I needed at least a backup pair! I found two pairs at Eddie Bauer that were on sale, and I like them a lot. However, I am sad at the size I ended up having to get. :-( I feel so heavy! (And I felt heavy before! While I was pregnant, I felt cute. Now I’m back to feeling fat.)

I have been assessing my cooler weather clothes, and it seems that most of them sit right at the top of my pants. I think that must have been the style a few years back…? However, now that I have a bunch of ugly stretch marks on my tummy, I’m all about long shirts that hide as much skin as possible. :-) Again, thinking of my 5 day trip to Indiana, I really would like to get some new shirts that I feel comfortable wearing. (I also am having trouble fitting into my shirts in *ahem* other areas.)

I was trying to make this a “no spend” month to try and recoup all the money we blew in September with house repairs. But… it’s difficult because technically I have clothes to wear, but at the same time they don’t fit me right and they make me feel fat and uncomfortable. And, it would be nice if I could look nice for Indiana and seeing everyone (many people, for the first time in a while!). I think I will head to Goodwill this week to see if I can find some nice shirts and sweaters.

I need to start exercising and get rid of this belly fat! I have lost 20 lbs. so far of weight I gained throughout pregnancy. Seven more pounds will put me at pre-pregnancy weight and another 15lbs after that will put me at a healthy weight for my height and body type. I enjoyed 9 months of not worrying about weight… now back to the familiar struggle. :-(

more quick takes

Sometimes it’s easier to do bullet points than write blog posts!

* I’m still unpacking. I had a wonderful week, but it wasn’t ALL that productive in the unpacking department. I am still quite lazy and haven’t seem to gotten in the “I’d better get some work done now while Savannah is sleeping” groove yet. I need to learn to force myself to do stuff in the time I have instead of waiting until I feel like it.

* My mom left today for a two week trip to Germany and Turkey. I’m going to miss her! I always miss her when she travels.

* We finally got the washer and dryer hooked up today! Hooray! I was completely out of clothes for Savannah and had to break into the 3 month clothes. (Don’t you love how in just a week a baby can go through her entire wardrobe??) We had some issues with hooking it up, which is why it took so long.

* I have been trying to take a daily walk around my neighborhood. I want Savannah to be used to the outside, and the exercise is good for me. I even met some of my neighbors! That was nice. It’s sooo hard for me to force myself to meet people – my shyness keeps me from making that effort.

* The other day I put on a sweater for the first time this fall. It was a bit snug, and I thought to myself, “Wow, have I gained weight?” Then I was like, duh of course I have. :-) Pregnancy seems so far away! I have my post-partum appointment on Tuesday and I am looking forward to seeing how much of my baby weight I’ve lost.

* We went to the Atlanta Greek Festival today! They have good food there. We enjoyed it. We sat through a cooking demonstration and learned how to make baklava. I carried Savannah in the sling because I knew it would be crowded. We saw a ton of strollers there, and I was just so grateful that we didn’t have to wrestled with a stroller the whole time. Yay for slings! :-)

* I have been uploading pictures to Facebook and Flickr – not sure if I’ve uploaded the same pictures to each place; I think not.

Okay I am really tired and think I’ll head to bed soon! We’re going to attempt Sunday morning church tomorrow!

this october morning

Savannah woke me up around 5:30 or so to nurse (which is normal), and I wasn’t able to go back to sleep afterwards. Eventually I decided to get up and go do something. :-) I’ll take a nap later!

I’m actually in a really good mood this morning. It’s the first day since we signed the closing papers on August 31st that I haven’t had to be anywhere! I hope to get some unpacking done today if I can. It will be nice to have more than one cushion of the couch cleaned off. :-)

There’s a delicious crispness in the air, and I’m excited about all the things I love about fall. In typical Georgia fashion, it went from summer to “crisp” in just a day, but since it’s October I don’t mind. Paul has started making his pumpkin pies, which he is excited about. I had to pull out my shoes yesterday… I guess it’s about time to pack away the sandals for the winter! And I can probably box up my maternity clothes, to save for a future pregnancy. (All except for the maternity pants. Still can’t fit into my normal ones!)

With the arrival of fall also comes a few anticipated events. This weekend is the annual Atlanta Greek Festival, which Paul especially has been excited about because it has yummy food. Then in 2 weeks we’ll be going up to Indiana for Isaac and Katie’s wedding! Hooray for that. I am excited for their wedding, and for seeing other friends. If you want to get together, let me know. :-)

Well, since Savannah is asleep and I am awake (and still not sleepy) I really should get to unpacking. I really want to finish putting away the kitchen! That will clear a lot of the stuff from the dining room table. :-) And also make it easier to cook dinner! I hope that life settles down at this point, and I’ll be back to blogging and commenting on y’all’s blogs. (I have been reading them!) Oh and I will take pictures, soon, as soon as I get some semblance of order in here.
