a note about commenting

The spammers have found my blog, once again, so I have reactivated my spam blocker. I’ve found that spam comments tend to come in waves, and so I turn off the spam blocker in between times. It occasionally catches a few legit comments, especially if you include links. I will try to monitor them, but if you post a comment and it doesn’t show up, please email me! I will rescue from the spam blocker as soon as I can. :-)

Also, please know that in general I don’t delete comments. The only non-spam ones I’ve deleted are when they are extremely hurtful, mean, and/or don’t relate to the post at all. Sometimes I have gotten really insensitive anonymous comments on posts that have been difficult to write for me emotionally. I have deleted those because they have just made an already sore wound deeper. Oh, and I *do* edit comments if they contain personally identifying information; i.e. my last name. :-)

That’s all. Comment away! I do enjoy reading them, and I always try to respond!

registering for baby items

I have been meaning to write this post for forever now. I don’t want to turn this into a baby blog, but of course I don’t want to ignore that aspect of my life either. :-) I thought it might be interesting to post this though, and see what responses the rest of the moms who read my blog have!

A few weeks ago, I emailed five friends and asked them their advice about what to register for a new baby. All five of them have had babies in the past year (except for one, who is due with #3 this summer!), all five are frugal-minded, and all five live in fairly small quarters. Some of the moms use cloth diapers, and some use disposable (and some have done both!), and all five have breastfed their babies.

They all sent me great responses to my query and I have compiled them all here! It was fun to get all the different opinions, because I know that every baby is different, and that I won’t know for sure what exactly I’ll need until Sparkleberry gets here. In the meantime, though, I need some sort of idea of what things to add to my registry for baby showers.

laundry day

Sparkleberry made out like a bandit after the baby shower this weekend. :-)
Laundry

I need to wash them all, sort them by size, and put them in the linen closet which will become “the baby’s closet” if we are staying in this apartment. It was so much fun to go through them, cutting off the tags, and imagining the little girl who will be filling them in just a few months. Baby clothes are SO cute! And I think I have some of the cutest that were ever made. :-) I kept saying “I think this one is my favorite. Oh wait! No, this one. Oh, no I like this one.” I can’t wait to dress her in them. :-)

(My mom says that the reason there are tons of baby pictures of me in the family photo album is not because I was the firstborn, but because she was actually taking pictures of all the adorable clothes I had.)
